Description This is a lovely dainty shrub that enjoys dry rocky areas. The leaves are narrow, rolled inward and sparse.
Mature Size 1' tall and up to 2' in diameter
Bloom July-August. The flowers are off-white with brown lines. They have a lacy appearance. The bush looks like a soft, spongy fluff of white.
Interesting Facts This highly variable species is found throughout the West. Flower color, woodiness of stems, growth pattern, leaf shape, etc. are all variable.
Traditional and Medicinal Uses The Hopi boiled the leaves, mixed them with corn meal and baked it into a type of bread. It has been used as a remedy for headaches.
