Description This is a low growing mat-forming cholla. It often forms thick mats that can be impenetrable. The spines come in several colors and can be as sharp as daggers. It looks gray from a distance.
Mature Size 4" - 6" tall
Bloom June-July. Flowers are lemon- yellow to greenish. They have yellow spiny fruit.
Interesting Facts The spines are capable of piercing shoe leather or finger nails.
Traditional and Medicinal Uses Parts of this plant were roasted in times of food shortage by Native Americans of the Acoma and Laguna Pueblos.
