Eye of the Beholder: A Non-Olympic Personal Garden
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 – 4pm – O’Keeffe Theatre
At the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

Santa Fe Botanical Garden is pleased to present a fun summer presentation featuring Dick Button two-time Olympic champion, Emmy Award winning broadcaster, prolific garden writer and the designer of his beautiful Ice Pond Farm in New York’s Hudson Valley.  He will share images from his garden and show how his passions for figure skating and gardening are intertwined.

The event is hosted by Santa Fe Botanical Garden and will be held at the O’Keeffe Theatre at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture on Milner Plaza, 710 Camino Lejo. Admission is free for SFBG members and $25 for not yet members, benefiting Santa Fe Botanical Garden.  Seating is limited and registration is required.

The voice of figure skating, Dick Button is widely considered one of the premier male figure skaters of all time.  He dominated the world of figure skating for a seven-year period becoming the only skater to win all major competitions.

Mr. Button owns Ice Pond Farm in North Salem, NY.  Ice Pond Farm is known for its unique topography and eclectic beauty. The farm has a steep hillside down to a valley with an ice pond and a stone wall that pretends it’s a roller coaster. Additionally, there’s an icehouse, smokehouse, springhouse, and an outhouse “with a view”.  The farm also has an orchard, a wildflower walk, perennial borders, and a stone bridge. And, let’s not forget the bocce court.  Mr. Button studied architecture, landscape design, and decorative arts at the Attingham Trust in the UK.
