The Food Depot encourages home gardeners to "plant a row for the hungry" and donate the produce to the food bank for distribution to people in need. CHARD
(Beta vulgaris)

Chard is closely related to beets and has been cultivated for centuries. It is highly nutritious with generous amounts of vitamins A, C, E, and B6, as well as a broad range of minerals, including calcium, zinc, and iron. Tender and delicious when lightly steamed or stir-fried. Easy to grow and adaptable to summer heat as well as colder fall conditions. Harvest continuously throughout the season.
