Extended Backyard Bird Alert There is one more month to view the beautiful Rosy Finches up at Sandia Crest. These birds live at high altitudes, some nesting as far away as the Arctic. There are three distinct species, and one distinct sub-species, each with differing colored, but equally striking, plumage. All can be found up at the Crest House, affording a rare and unique opportunity to see these beauties from early winter through the end of February. By March, one of the species will have already departed, with the others not far behind. Although the Crest at 10,678 feet can be brutally cold, especially when it’s windy, you can have coffee and a light lunch or snack at the Crest house, viewing the birds in comfort through the large windows overlooking the deck. The birds fly in at about 20 minute intervals, so if they are not there at first you won't have long to wait. For more info, feel free to contact me cre8valt@aol.com, and be sure to catch my photo-essay on these wonderful birds on the March Website.
