ROOT PROPAGATION
STEP-BY-STEP

Use plants in a dormant state when making root cuttings (when leaves are dying back).

Cut roots into approximately 2" pieces, starting just below soil line. Place the cuttings in moistened root medium. Small thin roots are placed horizontally on top of medium. Large thick roots should be inserted vertically into medium. Dust cuttings with fungicide and if desired a good root stimulator. Label cuttings and note pertinent data.

Cover with the medium, add water to moisten well. Cover container with plastic, being sure there are holes in the top to allow for air circulation.

Place in sheltered spot. Keep moist, watering only to prevent drying out. If condensation appears on the top, there is no need to add water. Watch for new growth (usually in spring). Pot and water cuttings when sufficient root growth is present. Label the cutting. Grow cutting until strong enough to plant outdoors.
